Shantytown

On Monday Te Hiringa visited Shantytown, to learn about the early maori, pounamu and a man called Kehu.

When we first got to Shantytown she told us all the rules and the boundaries, Then we entered the room with all the the pounamu and fossils.

Then we went to make huts in the forest, we walked a track to get to the area we were separated into 3 groups of 4 and there was 1 adult to each group. All of the huts were amazing and it was fun to pick up sticks and ferns.

She then separated the tuakana from the teina, we learnt about Kehu and all the amazing stuff he did, Some people call him superman.

Then we walked across a narrow bridge made of a log, And had a Christmas service like Kehu, we all had to sit on mats and we proceeded to say a series of priers and one of the students told the Christmas story.

In conclusion Shantytown was a good trip and a good experience.

  1. Kia ora Joseph,

Thank you for sharing your trip to Shantytown. I was so disappointed that I could not be there with the class. I like the way you explained everything in detail and in the order it happened. Kehu sounds like an amazing man. Did you have a favourite part of the day?
